Can a salad really detox the body?


It’s important to point out that actual detoxification happens by the organs in the body however, our diet can make it easier by eating the nutrients that help in the detoxing process….like chlorophyll. Green veggies get their green color from chlorophyll. Which does lots of great things, one of which is to help the liver get rid of toxins and carcinogens. 

Chloro-Filled Salad

6-8 cups of leafy greens

1/4 cup basil pesto

1 cup green beans

1 cup sugar snap peas

1/2 cup pepitas (raw pumpkin seeds)

1 Yukon gold potato cut into thin coins

1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

salt & pepper to taste

Optional: garnish with avocado

1. Toss the leafy greens with the basil pesto.

2. Place green beans, peas, potato coins on a large baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and season with salt & pepper. Roast in an oven preheated to 450 degrees F for 15 minutes then add the  pumpkin seeds to the pan and roast for another 5-10     minutes. Watch closely to ensure the pumpkin seeds do not burn. 

3. Add the roasted veggies to the greens and give a stir. Optional: garnish with avocado.
