A shift is happening from Wellness to Human Performance. It makes sense, the greatest athletes in the world reach their highest level of performance through diet, exercise, rest and sleep. Why shouldn't you?

The following is a basic training plan you can follow to achieve your goals in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.

First, let's understand Periodization. Periodization is the systematic planning of athletic or physical training. The aim is to reach the best possible performance in the most important competition of the year. It involves progressive cycling of various aspects of a training program during a specific period. In basic terms, this is your pre-season, in-season and post-season. Since the majority of us are not making a living off of our neighborhood 5k:-). We need to adjust schedules to our busy lifestyles.

The following is a sample of what a calendar year might look like. Hopefully this will help provide mental clarity before crushing some big Goals!

A Sample of a FitLivin Calendar Year

Pre-season: January-April

This is a time to establish micro-goals, build a base and get the mind/body strong for a great year!

In-season: May-September

This is a time to focus on our big goals, increase performance levels and put in a huge effort!

Post-season: October-December

This is a busy time of year and an opportunity to let the mind/body recover. A time to put a focus on our weaknessess.  Examples might include: improve flexibility, increase core strength, get stronger.

The end result of training like a professional athlete includes:

1. Crushing some big Goals
2. Staying focused and motivated
3. Avoid the danger of plateauing (doing the same thing over and over)
